circle&wind is the music project of Viola Petsch, an interdisciplinary artist who works in the fields of music, visual art and intuituive sound performance from Wuerzburg, Bavaria.

In June 2021 firstling “O“ was self-released: five chapters tell their very own and old story of dying and living, the ambivalence of being, of giving and being taken, a journey of change.                                                                                                                      Warm, deep vibes full of emotion and a captivating voice which covers you with words and won’t let you go again. With her haunting, almost fragile voice and her reduced yet driving sound, circle&wind spreads her own wonderful magic. This music seems to be fallen out of time.

Her work comes from the inside. Unfiltered. Neither afraid of the beauty nor the dark. “My music […] enables me to process darker episodes of my life that were and sometimes still are consequences of traumas I had to experience. But it also reminds me of the light(ness) and love I have been able to keep in my heart and my soul.”

There is no special form Viola wants to press her songs in. This is clearly noticeable on her second EP “metamorphosis” which was self-released on Christmas Eve 2023 as a gift for her fans as she loves to combine apparent opposites: Mystic pop noir elements paired with spheric post rock guitars and slowcore vibes are cocooned by a voice whose vintage sound again gives circle&wind her unmistakable character and shows her roots in folk music.

A fellow artist once noticed to Viola: “You are voice!”. A voice that finds the right sound for all the things that move and might even brake you. A source of console.

In Nikita Kamprad Viola has found the ideal partner for her project. As producer of both Eps, he’s created a sound full of emotional power and depth for circle&wind which unites all the opposites inherent to the music with sophisticatedly sensitive as well as opulent arrangements. He also supports her on guitar on stage. You might have seen them live e. g. at U&D Wuerzburg 2021 or as support act for Grammy winner Suzanne Vega at Hafensommer Wuerzburg 2023.

c&w loves to collaborate: In June 2021 c&w was featured on the ISON album "AURORA" with the track "Penumbra". Two years later c&w worked with ISON again. The single "Radiant void" was released on the album "STARS & EMBERS" in 2023. In spring 2023 "Sorrow" was released,  a collaboration with Post Rock artist "Six Days Of Calm" for his second album "My Little, Safe Place" (Nov. 2023).
